The author

“The real voyage of discovery is not to seek new landscapes, but to have new eyes.”
(Marcel Proust)

“Being one with myself and the place where I am right now.
That is true happiness for me. And in Venice, this happiness is particularly intense.”

Sabine Stollberger

Author & pleasure nomad

Sabine Stollberger, born in 1972 in Klagenfurt, lives in Anif, a small community south of the city of Salzburg. It is a place where she can work in peace as an author and an ideal starting point for her passion for traveling in the mountains, reaching Venice in 6 hours by train, and Salzburg Airport is the starting point for her annual trips to Africa – a continent where she also lived for almost 3 years as a woman alone in an Arab country (Egypt).

As a “pleasure nomad”, she loves being on the road (with her partner as well as alone), getting to know new places, rediscovering herself again and again as a woman traveling alone, and always integrated into the local landscape or culture. As a coach, she supports people who have never traveled alone or who are not yet able to enjoy traveling alone.

“Torcello – rediscovering the past in the heart of the lagoon” is
her third book and the first e-book in the series:
“Venice – to the rhythm of the lagoon”.

2017

Moving to the Red Sea

This year I moved from Austria to Egypt to live my dream: to work by the sea and write my first book.

2018

First photo exhibition

As an amateur photographer, I opened my first photo exhibition at the Hurghada Cultural Center together with another amateur photographer. Our impressions of Egypt’s Eastern Arabian Desert were on display.

2018

My first book

“In the beginning, it’s just a dream. How the seemingly impossible becomes possible.” was published in November 2018, including a book launch at the First Speakers Cruise on the Rhine.
Remaining copies are still available.

2019

My second book

“When the sun rises over the Red Sea. My life alone as a woman in Egypt” In this book, I talk about my life alone as a woman in an Arab country.
The book is now out of print. A new edition is planned.

2020

Return to Austria

During the “pandemic” I wanted to spend time in Austria and then actually return to the Red Sea, but sometimes things turn out differently than you think …

2021

Start of work on the third book

While travel restrictions were still in place during the pandemic, I visited Venice several times and the idea for a third book was born.

2024

My first interactive e-book about Venice

The ideas for the book did not fit into a single and “normal” printed book, so I looked for alternatives and found them in the possibility of creating an interactive e-book. It was to be the first in a whole series and begins with “Torcello – rediscovering the past in the heart of the lagoon”
